Selection Procedure

The selection process, which aims at recruiting top level candidates from around the world, consists of 3 steps.

Step 1 – Online application

The students submit their application online: personal details, previous academic results, academic background, CV, motivation & recommendation letters and other compulsory administrative documents. Before applications are evaluated, an eligibility check is carried out to ensure that the minimum requirements are met and that all requested information and documents have been correctly provided and are valid.

Step 2 – Evaluation based on the electronic applications

The evaluation is performed on the basis of the information provided by the applicants and documents uploaded. All the applications are analyzed by one evaluator from the four partner Universities (University of Pisa, Polytechnic University of Catalunya, University of Silesia in Katowice and University of Lille). So, each application is evaluated four times.  The evaluator will consider the results obtained in the previous academic education of the applicant, the academic background, the CV, the quality of the university of origin and the motivation and recommendation letters. Based on the evaluators’ assessments, the selection committee composed by at least a representative of each Partner of the Consortium defines a first ranking list.

Step 3 – Interview and Admission

Only the best ranked candidates from Step 2 can enter Step 3. The evaluation is performed on the basis of an online oral interview with the applicants and a panel of evaluators composed of at least three evaluators from two different Partner universities.

This online interview will serve to assess the level of English of the student, the motivation and the overall level in physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Based on the evaluators’ assessments, the selection committee composed by at least a representative of each Partner of the Consortium defines a final ranking list.

This final list is divided into three sets:

  • Main List– Scholarship holders : Best ranked successful applicants who are offered to join the program with an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship.
  • Reserve List – Non-scholarship holders : Best ranked students on the Reserve list who are offered to join the program without scholarships but with a Tuition and Registration fee waiver, Comprehensive health insurance and Financial support to attend key events (winter school, award ceremony). Time is left for these applicants whether to decide to join as Non-scholarship holders students, or to benefit for potential drop-out from Main List applicants.
  • Non-Selected List: applicants who will not be admitted to the program.

The students of the Main / Reserve / Non-Selected lists will be notified by email after the selection board’s decision.
