Who can apply ?
Academic prerequisites
Applicants should hold, or be in the process of obtaining, a first higher education degree in science (e.g., Bachelor, Licence, or equivalent to 180 credits or 180 ECTS) at the time of application. In particular, students in the final year of their first degree may apply by providing an official certificate of enrolment issued by their Higher Education Institution. All candidates must have been formally awarded their degree by the time of enrolment in the BIOPHAM programme.
The degree (e.g., Bachelor, Licence, or equivalent) must be in at least one of the following eligible fields, which are considered appropriate for the BIOPHAM Master’s training programme:
- Physics (including Engineering Physics, Physics–Chemistry, Biophysics)
- Materials Science (including Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Materials Technologies, Polymer Materials and Engineering)
- Chemistry (including Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Food Technology)
- Nanoscience (including Nanotechnology, Nanotechnology Engineering, Nano-engineering)
- Bioengineering (including Biomedical Engineering)
In addition, all applicants should possess sufficient background in physics and mathematics related topics (usually a minimum 18 ECTS during the Bachelor studies) which will be assessed by the Selection Committee during the selection procedure.
Examples of some typical non-eligible fields: Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biological Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biomedical Technology, Biology, Biotechnology, Botany, Health Science, Industrial Bioprocesses Engineering, Medicine, Medical technology, Medicinal chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical manufacturing technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Reproductive health, Surgery, Textile Engineering, Zoology.
Note: Applicants already holding a master’s degree can be accepted while duly justifying their choice to study a second master’s degree. PhD students and PhD holders are not eligible.
Language requirements
All courses of the programme are taught in English. All applicants must thus attest a B2 English level or equivalent. This can be done in a number of ways, including through an internationally recognised test such as TOEFL or IELTS, or through previous upper secondary (high school) or university studies (e.g. a letter attesting English is the medium of instruction of your higher education).
The minimum test scores are :
IELTS : an overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5
TOEFL : Paper-based: Score of 4.5 (scale 1–6) in written test and a total score of 575. Internet-based: Score of 20 (scale 0–30) in written test and a total score of 90
Cambridge : CAE, CPE
TOEIC : 785
Duolingo : > 100
Adequate financial resources
Applicants should be fully aware of the financial costs of the programme and the cost of living in hosting countries (Italy, Spain, Poland and France). You will need to document your sources of income to apply for a student visa. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship holders are exempted of this requirement.
Further information about the application
- The application form must be filled out 100% in English and all provided documents, including the Curriculum Vitae, must be written 100% in English or translated into English. In such case, provide both original documents and an English translation approved by the university that delivered the original document or by an official translator.
- Fully completed application must be submitted online before the deadline of the related call.
- Incomplete application will not be considered by the consortium (see ‘selection procedure’)
- Only one application will be considered per candidates. If more applications are submitted online, only the last one will be considered, even if incomplete.
